here's some shots from spx.. I didn't take them, kevin Huizenga did.. but I'm such an egotist, I mean I didn't take any photos of my own, so I thought I'd save the ones that show off my fat ass, I mean showcase my beauty, here.. plus., I'm procrastinating and ADDled right now.

Jesse Reklaw and I on day 2, pondering what it is exactly that smells like that. Is it the men's room our table is right next to, or is it the stech of sweat from the humid room we're in? Later that night we held a party in our hotel room and talked about our dating holes.
Jim Rugg and I look tired and I look greasy on the final day of SPX, but this was one of the best conversations I had the whole weekend. At one point Hellboy creator Mike Mignola was right behind us talking to someone else and we got all weirded out and geeky.
in other news I dry humped a lot of people/places/and things that weekend. it's a defense mechanism, I suppose.

For those who don't know, or who only know me as a comic book person, I am involved with college radio. I was music director for a little over a year, am currently assistant music director, I have a "regular shift" as a dj playing a set playlist during the week, and I have a "specialty show" on saturdays from 10pm-1am playing a freeform radio show mix of experimental, electronic, rock, hip hop, jazz etc- whatever i'm in the mood for. I've been doing this show or one like it for the last 4 years, so it's kind of second nature to me at this point.. I don't plan out my playlists ahead of time, I just grab a bunch of cds I think I might feel like playing and bring them to the station and see what happens. Some weeks it's great & I'm really feeling it, some weeks it's all wrong & I can't do anything right, my mixes are all hamfisted, and I just want to go home. This week was pretty good, I guess. There was the added bonus of having some strange phone calls- one from a girl named "diana" who claimed to have had a very meaningful night with me at a local club a few weeks back. I can only assume this is a case of mistaken identity, or even creepier: someone is using my name to get laid!! I swear, if someone is getting laid offa my name, it oughtta be me! I can't even get laid using my name!
anyhow, here's the most recent setlist (and I'll probably keep posting them here, and you can consider them recommendations for anything on the lists, as I like most of it. It's at least worth going to allmusic.com to check out some of the names you might be unfamiliar with, but I am too lazy to link to all the pertinent bands)

APE APPROACHETH
oh man, the APE preparations are not nonstop, but they should be! I am totally overwhelmed. Secret Voice #2 looks like it will be cool.. I am going to be starting a new serialized story in this issue featuring the Dr. Galapagos character, in a slightly re-designed form. It will be two-toned like the OZU illustration I posted further down, or the Soft Moth piece from Telstar. The contents are actually: Soft Moth & Cloud Kids reprints, and the new Galapagos story, with some new llustrations and a hott new image silkscreened cover. So I'll have that, the first issue, Studygroup12 #3 and some brand spankin' new T-shirts, as well as some prints and ephemera. Oh yes, and a little color mini called "Ghost Attack!?" that also has a finely silkscreened cover. APE should be fun, I'll be at the Global Hobo/ USS Catastrophe / Studygroup12/ iwilldestroyyou / levon jihanin / typewriter tables. We'll be off to the side, on the left by the bar- tables 255 & 254. Check us out, stop by & say hi, and don't forget to BUYBUYBUY! because i'm so incredibly broke! When I get back, I'll post some of my coolest finds, and also get some work done reformatting this blog so it's a little more blog-like..

I can't believe I forgot to post my christmas present to myself:
Isn't it beautiful?!!?? For only 100$ I got to commishion an original gary panter drawing.. Based off of my 3 words "GIRLS, DONKEY, MONSTER"
He's since bumped the price up to 125$, but I'd say it's still more than worth it. Act fast before he stops the offer alltogether!
