two things:
my senior show went up this week... or last week, or whatever.. so, it's up right now.
but, the room it's in is kind of not flattering, and I had a really depressing critique on monday where noone said anything about the work, they just talked about the space and presentation theirin, and how it wasn't flattering. So, today and tomorrow, I'm going to be in there making sure it looks good and people can focus on the art and not on the shitty lighting or dirty walls. heh. Because the reception is friday night from 6-9 pm in the design building, and I hope lots more people will see it then than will see it while it's just open during the day. You are all cordially invited to my senior show reception. My mom and dad and little brother will be there so if you have ever wanted to see my genetic source material or flash your genitals at a 13 year old boy, now's the chance. There will also be lots and lots of awesome food (provided by my mom, and carly's mom too), wine, sodas(for legal reasons), and some good music playing in the background. Don't tell anyone but it's kind of a party or something. I hope anyone who's reading this that's in the vicinity will try and make it, it should be fun. There will also be some affordably priced books and prints for sale.

Also:
I was recently interviewed about my participation in this upcoming anthology called Project:Superior, which is mostly "arts comics" people doing their own types of super-hero stories.. My piece will be printed in full color, and is 10 pages long. This is very exciting for me becase i've never had any comics printed in color and i've tried to really outdo myself visually with this one. Anyhow, this is the first time I've ever been interviewed for anything, but i think it turned out pretty well.. There are admissions of geekery and 3 pages of preview art there, if you're interested in what kind of superhero I would do, or what my color comics would look like, check it out

MY NEIGHBORHOOD
Is the name of my upcoming solo show, the fruit of my senior project class, and my ticket out of the hellhole that is art school. or something. feel free to come by and check it out:

but if you can't, and you still want to see some of it, i'll be posting pictures here on the web after it's all over. If you really are curious, and/or want to see the whole thing in glorious detail in full color up close in your hands, I'm going to make a book /catalogue of the show to sell at the reception and thereafter. I'll let you know more about that later, when I have more time.

Rick Bradford has posted a very flattering Review of a book I was recently in, The Hi-Horse Omnibus from Alternative Comics. In fact, he said some nice stuff specifically about my 9 page story in there, which needless to say tickled me to no end, as I am a egotistical freak!

from the review:
Although there's lots of good work in this volume, the two absolute standouts for me are the stories by [martin]Cendreda and Soto. ... A fantasy that eventually turns horrific, it features a man lost at sea who comes upon a potential (yet nonsensical, at least to the reader) way out of his dilemma. The way out isn't necessarily a sensible route but at this point the man has nothing to lose. It's creepy, disturbing and the ending is distressing no matter how you look at it. In other words, I like it.

cool! you can buy the Hi-Horse book at the Hi-Horse website

Some big news this time kids!

+Check the infrequently updated studioblog for some SPX memories, but the big SPX news is that while I was there, I signed a contract with Adhouse Books' Chris Pitzer for a new full-sized comic version of The Secret Voice!!! That's right, Adhouse is going to publish a regular series by little old me! My plan is to have it come out every 6 months, give or take, and each issue will be 64 pages of goodness, with 1 large standalone story in each issue, a couple other shorter stories and one short continuing serial as well. As of right now, we're planning on having it come out right before San Diego Comicon. I need that lead time because I'm desperately trying to graduate right now and I'm knee deep in my senior projects, but that will all be over by December, when I can begin work in earnest on the first issue of the Secret Voice #1. I'm looking forward to making this book as awesome as it can possibly be, and I hope you'll give it a try when it's solicited through Diamond to comic shops.

+In related news, I'll have a 10 page full-color story in Adhouse's Project: Superior, which is mostly alternative comics creators doing their own super hero stories. I'm coloring my story with a mixture of ink washes and photoshop, and it's looking pretty cool so far, if I do say so myself..

+if you would like to purchase my recent mini comics, they are available from the usscatastrophe store: http://www.usscatastrophe.com/store/ , easily purchased with paypal.
Supa Zraz
Secret Voice
the scans are not the best, the books look better in real life and are FULL OF EXCITEMENT!
many of the other mini comics they offer are also quite excellent and/or better than mine. If you are a retailer, Global Hobo has copies of Supa Zraz available for distro with retailer pricing (not up on their website yet, but just email them), and Last Gasp will soon enough as well.

Well, a belated note to say that I have no more sg12s for right now. They apparently sold out at usscatastrophe in one day (they only had 10), and I am too broke to make any more at the moment.. However, I should hopefully have some more for SPX, as well as a new, huge issue of the Secret Voice, and at least one more super secret project i'm working on with some of the other cool comics kids that are cooler than me.

Sorry for anyone wanting the super-duper Ignatz award winning studygroup12, I just can't help you right now!

Woo hoo! I finally got my books in the USSCATASTROPHE Store! They now have the last 10 copies of sg12 #3 i brought to APE. So if you are wanting one, act fast! I am selling these far faster than I can hope to make them, and i am unfortunately far behind in producing them for the people who have expressed interest. Sooner or later, Last Gasp and the Giant Robot store, among other places, will have copies, but as I said I am behind on my bookmaking, catching up with school and comic book deadlines as I am. So yes, for now, the ONLY place to get your hands on a sg12#3 is the coolest mini-comics shop on the web, USSCATASTROPHE.com

In other news, I have a 9 page story in the brand new Hi-Horse Omnibus, published by Alternative Comics. This book is really nice! There's lots of good stories in here, and my work is surrounded by stuff from peeps like Lark Pien, Andrice Arp, Dan Zettwoch, Damien Jay, Martin Cendreda, & Gabrielle Bell, some of whome you may recognize as SG12 contributors. it just came out a week or so through Diamond, so you should be able to pick it up in your better comics shops.

ALSO!

new issue of the Secret Voice is out! featuring the start of an all new story called "Dr. Galapagos", plus two older stories and some drawings. i sold out at APE, but i'll have more soon.

Well, official new site unveiling- 5 minutes ago! Many thanks to the tireless efforts of my new web designer, Carly M. There are still a few small things that need tweaking, such as the online store, and finishing up the titles on all the art and pictures, but the actual content is all there. One of the main reasons i wanted to do a total re-design was to have a real live functioning Gallery to show my prints and comics, etc etc. This is the coolest part of the new design in my opinion. In other news, not only will the store be up in a day or two, but i promise to actually keep my blog updated.. I've been using my livejournal and Killoggs journals for personal stuff, but all my art and comics thoughts/links/ephemera will be posted in the sg12 blog regularly from now on. Links will also get a much needed refresher very soon. For now feel free to browse the site and check out the hot new gallery action. Anyone who wants to contact me can e-mail me.
